About that, I have a plan.

[ Berserkers, regardless of their level of Mad Enhancement, are not known for planning. ]

That whole 'participate in the Holy Grail War' thing? Let's--hear me out here!--let's not. We can run away to Paris!

[ She looks genuinely proud. ]

Hahaha, you're joking! Right?

No? I don't want to hurt anyone.

[ Rin has summoned the one and only pacifist Berserker to exist. ]

I certainly don't want you to risk your life. It would be best for you to not get involved.

But that's the whole reason you're here!

[She's getting at her limit. Rin slams her hand on the counter.]

Eek!

[ She jumps in her seat. Why is her Master being so mean? ]

But why would you ever want to be involved, Master?! Isn't this whole thing terrible?

It's been my family's goal to win the Holy Grail for generations. You're only here because I summoned you for that. I can't just give up on all of it. How can you?

[Is her screw up going to end up costing her the Grail? Or her life?]

I have no interest in honor for myself. It is important for a wife not bring dishonor to her husband. That's right, right?

[ Every Berserker has perceptions of reality that no amount of logic or communication can possibly change.

She meets Rin's eyes with her own big, faintly glowing blue ones. She looks serious, which should be a stark contradiction to her up until now. ]

What are you willing to do to bring victory for the sake of your family? What is your wish from the Grail going to be? There are certain answers I will refuse to accept even from you, but I will know if you lie so please be honest and do not tell me what you may think I want to hear.

I — [Elphelt's sudden seriousness takes Rin off guard. She stumbles over her words, and her confidence wavers. But only for a second.]

I just want to win. That's all. I don't have a wish outside of that.

Wha? You're not lying, but how can you not have a wish? You're risking your life and intending to harm others, but not for...anything?

[ She had no expectations, yet Rin still managed to surprise her. Elphelt hoped to gauge her character, but she is more lost than before. She could judge a wish as good or bad, but no wish? Her Master could easily wish for any number of things for the family she wants to bring honor to: something as mundane as riches or as terrible as eliminating enemies, yet she has no wish at all. ]

In a way, that is so pure. I can feel my heart skip. Perhaps we are meant to be.

[ She is whispering to herself but, uh, Rin can most definitely hear her. That crazy, serious look in her eye is gone for now. ]

Okay! I may have no interest in particpating in a war or harming anyone, but so long as I exist, no harm will come to you, darling. Ever. If winning this war is what I must do to protect you, then I will.

[Still a bit on edge by the incredible mood swing there, Rin pushes Elphelt's mug toward her on the counter before sipping at her own.]

You know I can hear everything you say, right? I'm right here.

Um. There is one thing...Something I'd like you to promise me.

[ That comment went in one ear and out the other. Berserker! She looks like she is ready to beg. ]

I will fight other Servants, but please do not ask me to hurt any humans, including the other Masters.

[Elphelt's request makes her skin crawl. As if she's being accused of something heinous. It's true the most efficient way is to take out masters, and the rules of the Grail War saythat anyone who witnesses it must be killed to keep a lid on it. Rin hates that rule, and those practices. So much so she's on the verge of being offended that someone would even assume she'd stoop so low. But Rin's not about to have an explosive burst of anger. Instead her eyes narrow, and she glares into her tea.]

I will do my best so that you don't have to do those things, [is all she can manage, so that down the line she cannot be called a liar.]

[ Elphelt isn't quite sure how to interpret that response. Sure, there is no way she can accept that as a promise, but had her Master wanted to win at any cost then wouldn't she have rejected the request altogether? At the same time, Rin seems angry. Again. No, not seems; Elphelt is positive Rin is angry. ]

Thank you. [ Her voice is quiet and she is no longer looking at Rin, instead focusing on her own tea. She manages to drink from the mug without breaking it.

The only point of pride she has as an Anti-Heroic spirit is the fact she never killed anyone in her life, failing to become a monster. She would not like that to change now. ]

[Rin is quick to finish her tea. She rinses the cup so a dark ring won't form at the bottom in the morning. After a good rinse she sets the mug down and begins to walk out of the kitchen.]

I'm headed to bed. We'll speak more in the morning.

Oh, okay.

[ No goodnight or anything because she doesn't get the hint. Instead, she downs the last of her tea and gets up to follow Rin to the bedroom. She seems...excited about something, but is keeping herself restrained. ]

[Rin only finds it a little odd that she's being followed, and doesn't really question it until they reach the hall down which her room resides. It's there, before she makes it toward anything that might give away where she's sleeping, that the young magus turns around.]

What are you doing?

[ Elphelt raises an eyebrow and tilts her head. Rin may as well have asked her if the sky is blue or water is wet. Isn't the answer clear as day? Tonight is their first night together after their union! She has wifely duties to perform. ]

...Joining you? I wonder what our bedroom is like. Oh, and don't worry, I may be bigger than you, but I don't mind being the big or little spoon.

What?! No. No, no, no. We are not sharing a bed. We're not. We're not spooning either!

[Suddenly she's glad she has yet to make it to her room.]

W-What? I'm so stressed. I was hoping for some hugs. Wait, is this one of those separate bed type of things? What year is it? How far back did I get summoned?

[ Is this the 1950s where no one is allowed to share a bed? Or, wait, wasn't that just on television? She forgets. Regardless, to think her Master would be such a prude... ]

A—Aren't you supposed to be patrolling the house so no one tries killing me in my sleep?

[Granted any magus worth their salt probably sets up magical traps around their home for protection even outside of the Holy Grail War time, but still!]

[ She furrows her brow and shakes her head, clearly disappointed in her Master's lack of familiarity with Berserkers. If she could be any of the other classes, she would! ]

...Have you ever heard of a sneaky Berserker? Our strength is, um...strength, not observational skills. Any class with basic stealth abilities could get by. Don't even get me started on an actual Assassin! No, the optimal place for a Berserker to ensure her Master's safety is by her Master's side.

[ Madness Enhancement! She can think and communicate clearly using sensible rationale so long as that logic doesn't contradict the fixation that is at the core of her madness. The safest place for Rin is by Elphelt's side and that is where Elphelt wants to be, so no skewed perceptions of reality needed. ]

[She didn't want her to sneak around the house, she wanted her to guard it! But there's absolutely no way to get anything through that thick head of hers, is there? When Rin yawns it manages to sound angry to some degree, and then she stomps off.]

Fine! Just don't break my bed!

B-Break your bed? Oh my, just what kind of fantasies are going through my husband's head...? I may be a Berserker, but I'd rather you be gentle with me.

[ And right back around to misinterpreting everything Rin says in favor of this newlywed fantasy. But she is absolutely going to protect Rin with her life! Maybe if she does, Rin will end up liking her after all. El would like that... ]

[THAT'S NOT WHAT SHE— Good lord, it's no use. Rin roughly opens the door to her bedroom. Once she's inside she flings open her drawers and begins to peel off her socks so that she may get ready for bed.

Elphelt's free to peek. They're both girls, and Rin refuses to acknowledge this marriage as anything but the delusions of a mad servant.]
