Was there no game to hunt back when you lived?

[She can see the bland food being what they were limited to considering the time period, but jeez. No meat at all?

The pot in the back is filled with soup, and the back burner rests at a warming setting. In front: two pans. The one with sesame seed oil gets garlic, rosemary, and thyme. She sets two small fillets down, and they begin to sizzle. The other pan gets a small pat of butter. When it melts she tilts the pan back and forth to make sure it's properly coated at the bottom. Finally the eggs are poured into the second pan. Both get salt and pepper.]

Or was it scarce, and meat became a luxury?

It wasn't that much of a luxury. The knights, even the king, went hunting often.

[ Of course, it was a luxury for those of lesser standing... but she doesn't take that into account. She just kicks her feet in annoyance. ]

But that damn Gawain! "Potatoes are the building blocks of a healthy diet! A strong body starts with good meals!" What an annoyance. I can understand quantity over quality, but that fool would eat carrots by the armful and call it a meal!

He sounds like an idiot. All that starch does nothing for you. It's proteins, fruits, and vegetables that are good for the body. I'll show you it's quality over quantity. If you don't eat me into debt I can make you some great meals.

[She sighs and allows the eggs to cook. Occasionally Rin stirs the pot of soup, and carefully watches for the right moments to flip the eggs and salmon.]

Tell me about it. Well, your debt isn't my problem, but I won't demand more if you can satisfy me now.

[ Heh. ]

Seriously... you should be glad you summoned me and not anyone completely disagreeable. [ Said with no trace of irony in her voice. ] We get along pretty well, don't you think?

[Rin gives Mordred a flat look. Is this woman serious? What makes her think they get along?]

This is your idea of getting along? Would you threaten to kill any master the first night you're summoned?

Of course.

[ She sounds surprised... why is that even a question?? ]

It's your reaction that mattered. You didn't back down... and you didn't immediately try and betray me, either. If you'd tried to use a command seal to kill me, your head would have been separated from your body before the order finished.

For that, you gained a little of my respect, Master. Maybe you'll earn more of it by the time we finish working together.

[Tch, jerk. Testing her resolve like that. And as if a Master should be loyal to a Servant. More like it should be the other way around! Rin huffs, and returns to the food. She flips the salmon, and for the eggs... she'll get a little more showy than just a spatula turn. Since the eggs blanket the whole pan Rin decides that after getting them loose she'll just flip them like a pancake. The young girl removes the pan from the heat, and readies the eggs. Following a short bought of shaking the eggs she tosses them into the air, and catches them in the pan!

Sure, she can do this, but she can't fucking summon a servant who will listen to her. It's always the important things she gets wrong.]

[ And Mordred........................... isn't looking at all, too busy poking around the rest of the kitchen. Sorry Rin. ]

Hey. You eat lunch at school, right? Find somewhere isolated so I can have some too. I'll be bored, so it's the least you can do.

[All that effort WASTED. Just like the wasted effort that has given her a defective Saber. She rests the pan back on the heat.]

I'll see if I can manage it.

[Her voice doesn't sound like she'll put too much effort into it.]

Make sure you do. Remember, you can still hear me, even when nobody else can.

[ AKA she'll distract you during class, Rin, do you really want that? ]

And what? You'll threaten to whisper sweet nothings into my ear? I doubt you have the nerve, Saber.

[The first thing that comes to her mind when Mordred threatens to bother her like that is the moron annoying her with all kinds of stupid insults. But mentioning something that would put her off? Hopefully that will give Rin a little advantage for a few moments.]

[ She immediately makes a disgruntled noise. ]

W-what? No! Don't suggest something so perverted sounding!

[ Because that was totally perverted. Mordred's just a prude, as always.

As punishment, she lobs an apple at the back of Rin's head. ]

[Ouch! That causes Rin to drop the spoon she was using to test the soup into the pot. Tohsaka whips around with a terrible glare directed straight at Mordred.]

You're an absolute menace, you know that?! Fine, yell at me, but stop trying to hurt me!

[Rin stomps over to Mordred, and shoves her shoulder.]

I'm not seriously trying to hurt you! What fool would incapacitate their own Master?

[ She grumbles when Rin shoves her, but fortunately doesn't push back and put her through a wall. ]

You've been acting weird since this morning. It's annoying, so I'm making sure you know that it's annoying. [ By... hitting her in the head with an apple. Naturally. ]

So you bean me in the head with an apple? I'm going to have a bump, Saber. And you're distracting me. The food is going to burn. So pick up the apple, and stop assaulting your Master, okay?

[Tohsaka huffs, and returns to the food. The fillets get transferred to separate plates, and the egg gets rolled up and sliced. Each plate gets a few slices before being paired with a bowl of soup. Mordred's is larger. Maybe filling her up on the cheap soup will mean she won't try scarfing down every fish fillet in a two mile radius.]

If you can't handle a bump, you're not ready for this war. Maybe you should start wearing a helmet?

[ Is that... a joke? Maybe.

Of course, the moment she sees the bowl of soup, she grabs it and starts slurping it down like a fucking animal. What are table manners, can you eat them? ]

Don't be impossibly thick, Saber. Any Master would be upset with their Servant attacking them.

[With Mordred devouring the soup like it's filled with her father's approval, Rin decides to let her be distracted as she moves the rest of the plated food to the table.

She'll sit down, and watch her partner annihilate the meal.]

Think of it as training for the real thing.

[ Said between slurps as she follows Rin with a mouth half-full of soup. Some of it dribbles down onto her chin, unnoticed as she starts to devour her food instead. So, yeah, maybe the soup is a metaphor for her father's approval here. ]

Master. [ Suddenly serious. Yes, still with soup on her chin, and midway into ripping through her meal. ] I'm willing to follow along with your plans. But if any other Servants are from Camelot, then they're the priority. Got that? Most of us would fit into multiple classes, so don't go thinking it won't happen because you got a Saber.

[Rin allows Mordred's words to rest heavy over the dinner table as the serious mood settles in. Quietly she eats a small roll of egg thinking over her Servant's request.]

Well, it would be troublesome to let an enemy who knows your true name and origins.

It's not just that. You could call it unfinished business.

[ And not just with her father. She hates Lancelot with a passion. She was the one to kill Gawain. There's some level of animosity between her and almost all the knights of Camelot, understandably. ]

A-anyway. I'm telling you now, so you don't end up giving an order that makes me hate you. [ Because she doesn't want to hate Rin. Shhh. ] Finding out Caster's identity should be a priority, especially. That's the only class that woman could be summoned into.

[Her eyes narrow as she tries to read Mordred's expression. What does that look mean?]

Who is "that woman," Mordred?

[Was it someone she saw in the dream?]

Morgan.

[ There's none of the mix of love and hate she talks about her father with. It's pure, unfiltered loathing, almost unintentionally menacing with the sheer amount of anger she forces into the atmosphere between them. ]

My mother. There's no doubt she'll target me if she's summoned here. [ She clenches her jaw. ] I'll make her regret it. And you'll regret it too, Master, if you try to stop me.

Why would I?

[This side of Mordred is scary. The pure rage and hatred that oozes from her makes Rin sit back in her chair to put a little distance between the two. She didn't even feel this much animosity from Mordred when she threatened to kill her. From the pieces of the dream Tohsaka put together she can get why she hated her mother, but there is still much left unanswered about the situation that confuses her.]

In this war our enemies are shared.

Masters can form alliances. Some even go behind their Servant's back. If you even think about doing that...

[ She's threatened to kill her once, as a test. The next time she does, it won't just be a threat.

She tears her last fillet in half, and some of the animosity dissipates. ]

... Well, I don't think you'd do that. But I'm warning you anyway, so don't complain if I take your head. [ How would that even work... ]

Saber, I made my alliance with you first. You'd have to do something really stupid, or ask for something completely unreasonable for me to go back on that. After all, who would want to betray their servant when they pulled the best card?

[Hmph! Rin goes back to eating as if everything she said was obvious and plain to see. When she's finished daintily eating she begins to collect her tableware to wash it in the sink.]
