CHARACTER INFO
NAME: Rin TohsakaSERIES: Fate/Stay Night
CANON POINT: Heaven's Feel Route: right before confronting Sakura with the Jeweled Sword
AGE: 17/18 - VN states that Tohsaka is a 2nd year, which would mean she turns 17 at the beginning of the game. Though Fate/Zero stated she was 8; the 5th Grail War occurs 10yrs after the 4th. Not only that but Hollow Ataraxia states the characters are 18 and it happens... 6-8mo after Stay Night. BIG SHRUG TBH
CHARACTER SUMMARY:
Rin Tohsaka is a young woman at odds with herself. As a child she was raised to reflect ideals that contradict her core feelings. She was taught to be prim-and-proper, elegant, self-reliant, cynical, detached, cold and logically rational. However her true self, which comes out in private, is much different. Loud, bossy, shrewd, stingy, and childishly competitive.
This disconnect from how she was raised and her true feelings leaves those around her to feel like they get mixed signals. She puts off a very hot-and-cold attitude. Sometimes oscillating from detached ice queen to reactionary hot-head. On occasion one may come across the "Red Devil" side of her which is more mischievous and playful. At her core, and what she buries deepest, is her inclination to act as a big sister. She's incredibly protective of those she cares about and will overburden herself with responsibility. Though she'll most definitely disguise it as something self-serving.
POWERS:
Manipulate 5 Elements - This is mentioned as an extremely rare trait, however it doesn't mean she weilds them directly. To put it simply this indicates she has a high ceiling for her potential cap and that she's not limited to one type of elemental spell/she can be more versatile.
Conversion of Power - Rin's family excels in the storage of magical energy inside objects. Since the human body can only hold so much energy at one time, the Tohsakas will drain some periodically and store it in objects to be used for later. Not only that, but human bodies limit the amount of magical energy that can be used at once. So by storing a bunch of energy into one object someone can overcome that limit.
Conversion Subsection: Jewelcraft - Basically this subsection is how the above ability is going to naturally cap itself. The Tohsakas typically use jewels to store their magical energy. Not only because stones underground have become more sensitive and attuned to spirits, but because storing energy in anything else is simply more difficult for them. With Rin coming in with just the shirt on her back she'll be limited on what she can do.
Gandr - a spell that condenses magical energy into an orb that can be shot like a bullet. Rin can shoot more than one, and even create a barrage.
Limitations: the more she makes the less fatal each will become. These consume stamina/magical energy and will need to be rationed with whatever other techniques she'll need to use.
Bounded Field - In short it's a magical barrier. Usually used to create safe havens for a mage. Rin is capable of making one the size of a classroom.
Limitations: If this needs to be smaller for game purposes that's fine! Perhaps down to the size that it'd only comfortably fit five people? Let me know what would be best.
Reinforcement - The idea is to strengthing the object by pulsing magical energy through it. Tohsaka usually uses this to strengthen her body when engaged in hand-to-hand combat or attempting to reach super human speeds with her legs.
Limitations: This one can get a little ridiculous with her level of proficiency so she will still use these abilities they will rightfully be a drastic drain on her stamina/magical energy. Only used in short bursts with a much needed rest following before she can do it again.
Healing - Capable of healing simple stab wounds (non-magic/cursed), revitalizing (not fixing) dead nerves, and stabilizing (not completely healing) someone with a lot of blood loss.
Limitations: this would be a drain on her stamina/magical energy comparatively to the healing done. The only full heals she can accomplish are simple in nature and everything else is patchwork just to make sure an ally doesn't croak immediately.
GAME INFO
ASPECTS:Harbinger:
♦ This aspect reflects Tohsaka's tireless pursuit of becoming a mage. Ten years of basically teaching herself from the books her late father had in their mansion, and learning martial arts from her guardian Kotomine to round out her skills and give her an upper hand against her peers. She strives nothing less than excellence because that is what is expected of her, and even does push-ups before bed every night to keep herself in top form.
♦ The weaknesses of the aspect highlight the duality in Rin. Despite being manipulative and arrogant as a "given" for being a mage, she also lets her unspoken code of honor override the the mask of indifference she wears. As a child in the drama CD she'd declare that "as a Tohsaka it [was her] responsibility to stand up for the weak" and in her mind she frames her duty of overseer of Fuyuki to be less like someone who needs to remove normal humans who stumble upon the extraordinary, but more like someone who is responsible for protecting normal humans from the world of magecraft and how it may use them like pawns.
Iconoclast:
♦ While the non-conformity seems to be at odds with Tohsaka's desperate attempts to fit in as 'the perfect mage', it works well in how Rin resents the sacrifices she has to make to fit into that mold. If she could somehow have both, she would. And for a long time she tries. However, in the end, Rin always seems to break from the rules and follow her heart. Especially in Heaven's Feel where she risks the world because she cannot muster the nerve to kill her beloved sister. The rest (resolve, vengefulness, pride, and the desire to be acknowledged) are all very easy traits of Rin's to pick out.
♦ A wounded pride as the weakness of this aspect would be a big contender for why Tohsaka would be slotted here. The ease of anger and vindictiveness — especially from a wounded pride — is one of the simplest ways to make her break from that "elegent" mold of a mage where she pretends to be cold and detached.
ANTICIPATED FACTION:
While Tohsaka would start out suspicious of them both, she would lean toward Zenith. Mostly because she is a highly skeptical person who doesn't trust things that seem "too good to be true". Which is why, when she finally has enough of not having her abilities, she's more likely to side with Zenith.
SUITABILITY:
Rin Tohsaka, while pretending to be a very "mind her own business" type person, is... not. She is curious, bullheaded, and motivated by the deeply-buried but similarly deeply-routed need to dispel her loneliness and feed her craving for interpersonal connections. She will bully her way into things, curiously investigate anything that seems strange, and more often than not cave to the compulsion to help others. She views herself as a capable and confident so not much will hold her back from participating. Especially if there's something she can get out of it. After all, one quote from her is: "I hate watching others try their hardest and seemingly gain nothing from it." So with all her stupid stubborn might she'll strive and struggle to reach a fruitful ending even if it seems impossible.
