Reaching out to Rin is like stepping into a moonlit parlor. Everything is quiet, muted, and neatly tucked away. Almost like a "lobby," of sorts to keep visitors away from the rest of what goes on in her head... and her heart. This space is cool, and placid. Much like the surface of a lake in winter as it reflects the pale glow of the celestial bodies hanging above it in the sky.

A reflection of serenity rather the true thing. A mask of elegance to hide anything that may be unsightly. Anything that may betray her.

[If only that were the case. There’s a pause as Gavial tries to figure out the most succinct way of explaining the very unique way she might’ve screwed things up that day. She’s never been the kind to beat around the bush, so—]

Back in the world I come from there’s this sickness, it’s called Oripathy. It’s not really contagious person-to-person… except when it comes to dead bodies. Causes them to crystallize and dissipate, which is real bad news for anyone nearby.

[Gavial sighs. She can probably see where she’s going with this.]

I’m infected with it.

Rin treats this seriously, but clinically. Without panic even if she is a little unsettled.]

How long does it take to present symptoms after exposure?

[She could be blowing this out of proportion for all she knows, but things work weird here and she can’t be sure. They need to know there is the possibility, even if it makes Gavial absolutely miserable to have to tell them.]

Usually it’s pretty quick, but it can vary depending on the level of exposure. Maybe it’s a low risk for a vector with how quick Shard-bearers seem to go once they’re dead, but… I have no way of knowing. So you need to be aware.

You haven’t noticed anything feeling off, have you?

Honestly? It's hard to tell. With how unstable this place is, factoring in Discord, and everything else? Unless I start crystallizing on the spot or spitting up bits of rock I'm not sure I'd have a way of differentiating it from anything else. Unless there are a certain set of symptoms to look out for?

[Lord... one of the many reasons that, even if Rin could call forth her sister from her shard, she wouldn't. It's safer as she is. Unknowing of the trials Kenos presents. The dangers.

[Yeah. With the way things have been going lately and all the extra nonsense Shard-bearers get to deal with on a daily basis, isolating the root cause of a lot of symptoms could get murky.]

Broadest and most common are fatigue, sharp localized pains, and trouble breathing. So yeah, not really easy to narrow it down with those.

[It gets more granular from there, but its not worth getting into, not unless they’re sure. But there is one more prominent exception.]

You’re not far off on the crystallizing thing, though. Black crystals appearing on the skin are the thing to look for.

I understand. I'll consult with you should any of those symptoms arise, but so far I haven't suffered from any of them.

[Unfortunately the first set of symptoms just sounds like catching a bad cold. The space gently shifts. Turning toward a more contemplative air.]

Though, if you suffer from these, what do you do to keep it in check? Or are you a non-symptomatic carrier?

[There’s some relief from Gavial to hear it, but there’s still a nagging little “what if?” being annoyingly present in the back of her mind. That’s gonna be a hard one to kick outta there, partly because of the frustrating lack of equipment she’d need to definitively confirm it and partly because of the precise thing Rin asks about next.]

Back home we had pain killers to take the edge off and suppressants to slow the progression. Here, though… I’ve been weirdly asymptomatic for the most part, yeah. Crystals are still around and I did have one episode, back when the Blight was making a mess of the cities, so I know it’s not gone.

[Imagine if it was, though? The cure everyone back home had been chasing, as simple as… having your soul whisked away to another world. Ha.]

I’ve working a bit at the Medical Academy here in Highstorm though, so if anything does change… I guess Dr. Tousaing and I can put our heads together and figure something out.

Perhaps I should let you know I'm also on a magical suppressant for another condition that may be a variable. It's a pain killer as well as working like a medicine to stop a body from rejecting a donated organ. Other than that, though... do you trust the Medical Academy, and Dr. Tousaing?

Definitely a factor to keep in mind, especially since the crystalline ore responsible for this is pretty… magically conductive? I guess is the best way to put it.

[So yeah, that sounds like a pretty important variable, if she had to wager. And because this whole thing has got Gavial very much in Doctor Mode:]

I’m guessing from the sound of it that you’ve got treatment for that condition of yours well enough in hand? Just know you’ve got options for help if something does change, whether it’s me or Tousaing and their crew—because, yeah, I’d say they’re trustworthy. Helped figure out some stop-gap treatments for the Bight before a group of us [and… Aetós… >_>;] finally worked out the cure. They know their stuff.

I see. When my condition put me a little under the weather, Kathova gave me a referral to there. I am a bit wary of sharing such intimate, and specific information with strangers so I haven't made use of the referral yet. Thank you for your input.

[Rin likes Gavial and (sort of) trusts her judgment. Though that is a bit of what Rin fears... collaboration with Aetos.]

[Ah, good on Kathova for looking out for folks. Gavial will have to give that Liberi a hearty pat on the back next time she sees him.

But she’s been doing the whole doctor thing long enough that she’s all too familiar with people not being keen to share details of their troubles. If it’s not a problem for now, she won’t press it—but she makes a mental note of it to keep in mind. As for Gavial’s own troubles—she’s long since gotten rid of any hesitance about that sort of thing.]

Amos said much the same as you, and was more focused on making sure I was taking it easy. [Because, yeah. That post-revival exhaustion is still very much palpable here.] I haven’t noticed anything out of the ordinary, yet. Just been tired as hell, but I’ll be keeping an eye out. Not all that eager to go through the whole dying thing again.
